Travel Directions

Public Transport

Tickets for public transport inside the city limits (the "AB" tickets) cost € 2.10 and are available at each subway and metro station, each tram, and from bus drivers. If you're arriving via Schönefeld Airport, you will need an "ABC" ticket, which costs € 2.80. There's also a day ticket for € 6.10 or € 6.50, respectively, and a day group ticket for up to 5 persons for € 15.90 or € 16.10, respectively.

For more information visit the website of the BVG, which includes a travel planner.

Glossary

123
Regular bus or tram line.
M12
"Metro line", i.e. a bus or tram that has a fairly staight route and is guaranteed to drive at least every 10 minutes during the day and drives all through the night (possibly on a shortened route, though).
X1, TXL
Express bus line, that generally follows the route of another line (for example the X9 follows the route of the 109 bus), but doesn't stop as often.
U1
Subway line. Drives through the night at weekends and is replaced by a special night bus during week nights.
S1
Metro line.
N12
Night bus or tram line. The one-lettered lines are replacements for the same-numbered subway lines during the week, e.g. the N9 bus replaces the U9 subway line during week nights.
F12
Ferry line. (Fun fact: Ferry line F24 crosses a distance of 36 meters and is, in fact, a rowing boat!)

Regular tickets are valid on all kinds of connections.

The Site

The site is located right next to the subway station U Gleisdreieck, which is serviced by the U1 and U2 lines. Please note that the U1 line is partially closed until October 31st, but there is a replacement bus service. A part of the closed line is also serviced by U3, instead. U Möckernbrücke, which is serviced by the U7 is a short walk from the tournament site, as is the Schöneberger Brücke bus stop, which is serviced by the M29 bus.

Staff Hotel

The staff hotel is located at:

Mövenpick Hotel Berlin
Schöneberger Strasse 3
10963 Berlin

It is located near the metro station S Anhalter Bahnhof, which is serviced by the S1, S2, and S25.

Arriving at Berlin Main Station

Berlin Main Station (Hauptbahnhof in German) is well connected with several metro and bus lines. To get to the staff hotel, just hop into the M41 bus towards Sonnenallee/Baumschulenstr. and get off at S Anhalter Bahnhof. The way to the tournament site is slightly more complicated: Again, use the M41 bus towards Sonnenallee/Baumschulenstr., but get off at S+U Potsdamer Platz and change into the U2 subway towards U Theodor-Heuss-Platz or U Ruhleben and get off at U Gleisdreieck.

Arriving at Schönefeld Airport

Schönefeld Airport (SXF) is serviced by metro lines S9 and S45. It's also possible to the X7 bus, which connects the airport to the U7 subway line. The quickest way to the tournament site is by using the X7 bus to U Rudow, changing to the U7 subway to U Möckernbrücke, and either walking from there or changing to the U3 (which is the replacement for the U1) for one station towards U Krumme Lanke.

Getting to the staff hotel is easier: Take the S9 to S+U Friedrichstraße and change into the S25 towards S Teltow Stadt. Get off at S Anhalter Bahnhof.

Please remember to buy an "ABC" ticket.

Arriving at Tegel Airport

Tegel Airport is not connected to the metro and subway network. Instead take the X9 or the TXL bus into the city. To get to the site, use the X9 to S+U Zoologischer Garten and change into the U2 subway towards Pankow or Spittelmarkt. Get off at U Gleisdreieck.

To get to the staff hotel, use the TXL bus to S Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station) and change into the M41 bus towards Sonnenallee/Baumschulenstr. Get off at S Anhalter Bahhof.

Football Match

There will be a player/judges football match at Thursday. We're meeting at 12:00 in front of the site. Please don't come to U Heidelberger Platz, since the field near that isn't available.

Touristy Stuff

If you are into touristly stuff, museum, or technology, I'd recommend to visit the German Museum of Technology, right next to the tournament site. It has a vast collection of cars, planes, trains, but also a windmill exhibition, a historic brewery, and old machines and computers.

Of course there is also the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building, nearby. The touristy Potsdamer Platz is near the tournament site, which sports such cultural important sights as cinemas, a casino, several restaurants, and a mall. Also nearby is the Tiergarten, Berlin's largest park.

The bus lines 100 and 200 are special tourist lines that double as regular bus lines. They connect many sights.

There are of course many more sights in Berlin. Please write to me if you are interested in anything specific.
